Are you stressed? Overwhelmed? Anxious? In this busy world it can be difficult to relax and find stillness within.
In Yoga, the word “asana” is used to refer to the art of sitting still. It is also applied to any posture useful for restoring and maintaining a practitioner’s well-being.
Sitting to knit with a conscious intention to know and train our minds is meditation – a lifelong practice with enormous physical, emotional and spiritual benefits.
This class is for experienced knitters who know the basics of casting on, knit and purl stitches, and casting off. We will talk about fixing mistakes (overcoming obstacles) and “finding flow” – how to get into a good rhythm with the knitting so the you can get maximum benefit from the motions of the craft. The focus is on connecting us to a meditation practice, rather than completing a project. You are welcome to bring an existing project to work with. With knitting in our hands, we will learn to slow down and sit in a quiet, relaxed, yet alert state.
Coffee, tea and breakfast munchies are included in the cost of the class.
Kidspace optional: $10/child (refreshments and activities for your child for the two hours of your workshop).
Instructor: Becky Stewart is a knitting and wellness blogger on a mission to stamp out stress one mindful stitch at a time. As a work-at-home mom of 3, she’s learned (the hard way) that taking time for self-care is non-negotiable. Becky combines knitting and meditation into a wellness practice she calls Knitasana.
