For parents, educators, and people of all ages who are curious about parenting and education. This is a great event for people involved with parenting, public schooling, unschooling, home learning, community education, or generally living and working with young people.

Helen Hughes is the founder and long time leader of Windsor House Democratic School, a Vancouver institution for non-coercive, alternative education, the president of Transforming Education Society (TES), a lifelong learner, an expert in unschooling and creative engagements in public schooling, and an instigator of The Learnary. She is a radical, compassionate educator with over 60 years experience. One of her superpowers is creating a non-judgmental, curious, and deeply useful discussion space.  Her particular interest is collaboration and joy.  Helen is full of curiosity, insight, and unexpected ideas, and she is a great person to spend some time with.

Sam Mills is the co-director of The Learnary, a life long unschooler who has also managed to get a great deal of formal education about education.  She also runs Touchstone Sessions, which offers academic support for unschoolers, is the founder of a collaborative homeschool and child care groups, and parent to a unschooled child, and a community educator. She is a great friend of Helen's and loves talking about parenting and education in community.

The Discussion: Participants are invited to bring something from their own lives they want to talk about in community. One of the things Helen often recommends to parents, when we find ourselves in a challenging moment, is to say "I'm not really sure what to do here, I'm going to do some good thinking about it, and talk with people to help figure it out, and let you know". This is a place to bring those moments and considerations. So that we can better understand our selves as parents and lean on one another in community.

Children are welcome.
