Learning is all about asking questions, right? So here are some questions…and some answers.
Where are you?
We have just secured a new location at 2643 East Hastings! It’s very exciting. However, we will be spending a couple of months getting the place ready to open. You are welcome to visit us there, but in the meantime, most of our classes will be held in the Mergatroid building – at either 975 Vernon Drive or 955 Vernon Drive. Our forging class is held at the Vancouver Hack Space (1715 Cook St #104). And we are very open to exploring new spaces if you have something you’d like to suggest!
What are your hours?
Currently, most of our classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm. Some of our monthly offerings are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8pm. Occasionally, we also offer things on a Friday evening or a Saturday or Sunday during the day. Each event will show the date and time it is offered. We do not currently have open space when workshops aren’t happening.
Who are the classes for?
We are an intergenerational learning space. We offer classes for adults of all ages and welcome kids to attend with caregivers. Older kids who feel they are able to participate in a class with adults are also welcome to register for most events. We are also developing programming for teens and kids on their own. We’re really all about building a “village” for all ages. Because we are all in the same big space, we hope kids will engage with what the adults are doing and feel they are part of the community.
How much does it cost?
Classes cost $0 to $50. That’s kind of a big range, but generally speaking, classes are $20 with all supplies included, and occasionally we offer a sliding scale. Most drop-ins are free. If you order a meal, that’s extra, and you’ll see the prices of what you are ordering. Each workshop or drop-in is priced separately and you can find more information when you check our current listings.
What’s the deal with the meal?
We think everything is better with food. We also think it’s pretty awesome to show up, get fed, let your kids play and learn something…with a minimal amount of effort. With that in mind, we offer you the chance to order food ahead of time and let us bring it to you. We order from Bandidas Taqueria. Firstly, because it’s delicious. Secondly, because it offers effortless vegetarian and vegan options. And thirdly, because they have a fantastic business ethic that includes paying a living wage, treating their employees fairly (even generously), and giving back to their community at every opportunity. Basically, we love them. And we hope you will too.
When you register, you have a chance to choose from Bandidas burritos or tacos. You can take a look at their full menu here.
