Covid Policies

At The Learnary, we request all participants mask while on the premise. Staff enforce this as they have the energy and ability.

Donations

FINANCIAL: The Vancouver Learnary Society is a non-profit, social enterprise. While we can issue receipts, they are not tax deductible .

THINGS: We accept donations of objects that are a good fit for us. We either sell them, use them at the curiosity table or in kits, or re-home them. We are a very tiny and crowed space, so we ask that people reach out to us by email first if they are unsure if the donation is a good fit or bring it by for Surya to approve on Wednesdays or Fridays.

TIME: If you are interested in hosting a workshop, helping in the store, supporting the curiosity table, designing a window display, cleaning, or dropping in for general tasks that always need doing, we welcome you. Please talk with us about what you have in mind.

Accessibility

Accessibility is important to us. Please note, however, that we are in an old building with limitations.

Downstairs: The Learnary Storefront is on one level. The front entrance door is 34” wide. There is a short slope outside the front door which rises approximately 5” over 13".Our bathroom is approximately 57” x 60”.  It is on the main level, and not accessible by wheeled mobility devices. The bathroom is non-gendered. The inside of the store including the curiosity table can be navigated by very small wheelchair, trim scooter, and walkers. There are chairs available for rests. The space is full of things and narrow, which can make walking aids difficult.

Upstairs: The workshop space is accessible only by a narrow set of 17 stairs. Bathrooms upstairs are marked gendered by the building, but are single use, and we have added all genders welcome signs.

Parking

PARKING FOR VISITING: Hastings Street has paid parking along both sides of the street. However, we recommend the free 2 hour parking behind the London Drugs site. This is only half a block to the west of The Learnary, and is abundant with available parking. There is a slight slop between the parking lot and The Learnary.

PARKING FOR ORDER PICK UPS: If you are parking for an order pick up. There is a loading zone apron 10 feet east of our front door. You can call us from there, and someone will come out to you as soon as they are able.

Schools & Educators

HOMESCHOOLERS & DIRECT BILLING: We work with IDLC and other schools for direct billing for supplies. If your supplies have been pre-approved by your teacher, you can ask us to direct bill in person or by email.

EDUCATORS: a 10% discount can be offered to schools and educators by request
